February is Black History month in Canada. It is the time to celebrate and remember all the ways that Black Canadians have contributed to Canada’s history and culture.

Our guest this year is the one and only Greg Fergus, MP Hull—Aylmer since 2015.

Who does not know Greg in the black community? He is the leader of the Parliamentary Black Caucus and has played a central role in black empowerment advocacy on the political scene.

We had the privilege to have Greg as our guest during this special month that celebrates African culture

Saa Andrew, Canada for Africa (CFA) Regional representative, the Maritimes

This year, the Canada For Africa Group is celebrating African Heritage Month with a spotlight on Fredericton, New Brunswick.

Member and CFA Regional Representative in the Maritimes, Saa Andrew has been busy aligning activities that amplify the voice of Africas-Canadians and the rich culture they bring to their communities.

A quick introduction: A Human Rights Law Graduate from Saint Thomas University, NB, Saa Andrew is the CEO and Chief Creative Officer for Battle of the Arts NB (BOTA-NB), a youth focused intercultural organization dedicated to the exploration of cultural diversity and social change through the arts.

BOTA-NB’s participants represent all cultures and religions and encourage a world where there is respect and curiosity to discover the possibilities of a rich cultural diversity.

With that, Saa Andrew is an Africanist at heart; his work in New Brunswick is dedicated to exploring what African-Canadians have to offer to the young generations, and what diverse communities can accomplish working together for a positive social transformation.

During Black Heritage month this year, BOTA-NB together with The New Brunswick African Association, in Partnership with Dialogue NB and the Fredericton Public Library, have teamed up to produce a full month of African Heritage Celebrations across NB. Events are all virtual with guest speakers and participants from across Canada.

This Year’s theme is “Amplifying Our Stories and Voices”. A series of events can be found below:

On the occasion of African heritage month, CFA senior advisor Prime Nyamoya had a conversation with Dr. Sudhir Hazareesingh on his biography of François-Dominique Toussaint Louverture, a Haitian general and the most prominent leader of the Haitian Revolution. During his life, Louverture first fought against the French, then for them, and then finally against France again for the cause of Haitian:
