AFRICA DAY 2026

Africa's Resources, Positioning and The Future

At the founding of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) in 1963, HM Mwambutsa IV, King of Burundi, named what Africa needed with clarity: road, communication systems, education, industries, and institutions. He also said clearly that the only way to get there was together.

He was not speaking to governments alone. He was speaking about people. The communities that roads would connect, the children that schools would educate, the workers that industries would employ, and the future generations who would one day live in the Africa being decided in that room.

Civil Society has always been the thread connecting those decisions to the people they are meant to serve. It is what we at ECOSOCC exist to strengthen.

As we count down to AfricaDay on 25 May, we’re proud to be part of the African Union’s continental campaign “Africa’s Resources, Positioning and The Future”, sharing the words of the leaders who started this journey and reflecting on the Africa their vision is still building.
